CHICAGO, IL, July 6, 2021 – Allyson C. Cox, of Chicago, has joined the law firm of Smith LaCien LLP as an associate attorney. She is a Chicago injury lawyer and her practice focuses primarily on personal injury, medical negligence, and civil rights. The firm concentrates on serious personal injury, medical malpractice, wrongful death, trucking litigation, birth injuries, and mass torts. It has a lengthy track record of achieving exceptional results for clients, with more than $2 billion in verdicts and settlements, and over 100 cases with results of at least $1 million.
Previously, Ms. Cox clerked for the firm, assisting on cases ranging from prisoner rights to business interruption. Before that, she clerked for another Chicago litigation firm, assisting with their plaintiff-side caseload while studying for the October 2020 Illinois Bar Exam. She obtained her law degree cum laude in 2020 from the University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco.
As a law student, she served as the external president of the Hastings Association of Youth Advocates and a staff editor of Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly. She also worked as a research assistant to Professor Lois A. Weithorn. Allyson spent her final semester of law school in Chicago, extending for the Honorable Justice Carl A. Walker at the Illinois First District Appellate Court.
Ms. Cox is a native of Mundelein, Ill., and received her undergraduate degree in Secondary English Education from the University of Kansas in 2017. While there, Allyson volunteered at several local schools and worked as an in-home teacher for a young woman with autism. Allyson is passionate about educational access and equity for all students and plans to focus much of her pro bono work on this issue.
