CHICAGO, IL, May 2020 – Andrew W. Mason has joined Smith LaCien LLP as a founding associate Chicago personal injury attorney, and will work on litigating complex civil matters, and cases involving death and catastrophic injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, amputations, paralysis, severe burns, and other serious disabilities. He also has experience litigating commercial matters involving fraudulent transfers, commercial bankruptcy, and business insurance coverage.
Prior to joining Smith LaCien, Mason assisted in litigating complex corporate bankruptcies at a large law firm in Chicago and worked as an attorney and law clerk for Todd A. Smith and Brian LaCien at their previous firm, Power, Rogers & Smith, LLP. Before attending graduate school, he was employed in the banking and financial services industry at both a large international investment bank and a top-performing Chicago-based investment fund.
Some of Mr. Mason’s more recent and notable matters involve assisting Smith LaCien LLP’s partners in obtaining a multi-million settlement for a plaintiff who suffered a traumatic brain injury after being thrown from his bicycle and succeeding in a declaratory judgment before the Indiana Court of Appeals requiring a large national insurance company to provide an injured plaintiff with up to $1 million of additional underinsured motorist coverage.
While in law school, Mr. Mason was a judicial extern for the Honorable Eugene Wedoff at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois, was a summer associate at a commercial litigation firm in Chicago, and helped start a highly profitable online and international wholesale business that collaborates with high-profile artists and celebrities. He has been an adjunct professor of law at Chicago-Kent College of Law since 2017.
A native of Riverwoods, Illinois, Mr. Mason received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the Tulane Law School in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2017; his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Freeman School of Business at Tulane University in 2014 and his Bachelor of Arts (BA), with a major in Public Policy and Law, from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 2008.
