Smith LaCien LLP Files Lawsuit Against Chicago Transit Authority for an Accident with Severe Injuries Caused When a Bus Struck a Car

CHICAGO, IL, June 16, 2024 – Smith LaCien LLP – Trial Lawyers, filed a complaint against the Chicago Transit Authority and its agents and/or employees for negligently causing serious injuries to the Plaintiff Richard McMahn, of Chicago, the driver of a car who was seriously injured when he was struck by a CTA bus at highway intersection.

Brian LaCien, a founding partner with Todd A. Smith of Smith LaCien, filed the case on June 10, 2024, in the Circuit Court of Cook County, against the CTA, an Illinois Municipal Corporation, for failing to operate a vehicle safely and carefully with proper control.

The complaint alleges that the CTA bus driver was negligent when he failed to reduce speed when approaching another vehicle; failed to stop or yield the right of way to other vehicles that were lawfully traveling on the highway when facing a red light, and failed to comply with the laws of the state of Illinois. As a result, McMahn has become disabled and disfigured. He will continue to need long-term medical care and is facing a future where his capacity to earn a living has been substantially reduced.

“Mr. McMahn suffered needlessly due to another person’s carelessness,” LaCien said. “We intend to gather more evidence about what happened because Mr. McMahn’s life didn’t need to take this tragic turn. He deserves restitution for his injuries and for pain and suffering.”
